Cheryl Ann Quillin, 79, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026, at BSA Hospital in Amarillo.
Born on January 21, 1947, in Wellington, Kansas, Cheryl was the daughter of Wayne and Ida Mae Quillin. She graduated from Dalhart High School in 1964 before pursuing her lifelong calling in nursing at St. Anthony's School of Nursing, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1968.
For Cheryl, nursing was never simply a job, it was who she was. She devoted her life to caring for others, spending many years working in the operating room where her skill, dedication, and calm presence earned the admiration of physicians, coworkers, and patients alike. Working for a respected neurologist, becoming such a trusted and valued member of the practice that she ultimately cared for multiple generations of the physician's family. Her loyalty was remarkable, her work ethic unmatched, and her compassion evident in every life she touched.
Those who knew Cheryl knew they could count on her. She was dependable, genuine, and fiercely dedicated to the people she loved. Whether helping a patient through a difficult day, supporting a friend in need, or simply sharing a laugh, Cheryl had a way of making people feel cared for and valued.
Outside of her career, Cheryl found happiness in simple pleasures. She loved her pets, enjoyed spending time outdoors working in the yard, looked forward to fishing trips to Ute Lake, and never turned down an opportunity to play a game of pool. She appreciated life's quiet moments and found joy in the people and places she loved most.
Although Cheryl had no children of her own, she leaves behind a legacy that reaches far beyond family ties. Through decades of nursing, friendship, kindness, and service, she became family to many. The countless patients, physicians, coworkers, neighbors, and friends whose lives she touched are a testament to a life well lived and a heart generously shared.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Ida Mae Quillin, and her brother, Darrel Quillin and nephew, Denny Quillin. She is survived by her sister, Deborah Quillin, one niece, several nephews, along with numerous friends, great neighbors, former coworkers, and loved ones who will forever cherish her memory.
