At just two weeks old, Austin moved to Dalhart, Tx with his parents and has been a member of the Dalhart Community for 33 years and a graduate of the Dalhart High School class of 2010. An avid reader, Austin loved a wide range of literature, including Poetry, Science Fiction, Mystery and Horror podcasts, and the classics. A musician himself, he enjoyed sharing his eclectic tastes with loved ones. From brass and marching bands to classical guitar, rock, and jazz. He often worked with his hands, tinkering with new ideas and inventions and repairing household items. He loved the freedom of riding his motorcycle on the open road. His love of technology, science, and history led to a fascination with vintage machines and computers. His affinity for technology made him a gifted machinist. He excelled in CNC programming and other areas of his chosen profession.
He was outspoken in his beliefs and socially conscious. Austin was always seeking a better life for his family, the community, and people around the world. He was immensely proud to be a father to Lizzie and an uncle to Lucas. There was nothing he wanted more than a better world for his favorite children. Austin served his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps and later continued servanthood as a volunteer Firefighter for the Dalhart Fire Department.
Austin is survived by his loving wife, Alexandra Knight; his precious daughter, Elizabeth Audrey Smith; his devoted parents, Corinna and Barry Smith; his sisters, Cynthia Eron Smith and Kyla Smith Briggs; his sister-in-law, Helena Knight; and his nephew, Lucas John Dixon. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Donald Jack and Juanita Eron Graves (Rains); and Gary Dwane and Winnie Louise Smith (Rush).
Known for his kind heart and generous spirit, Austin touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a proud father, and a beloved son, brother, and friend. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and all who loved him.
