Aubrey Lynn Neff, 78, born in Ralls, Texas, and longtime resident of Dalhart, Texas, passed away on New Year’s Eve after a short illness. He was surrounded by love and leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength, integrity, and deep devotion to his faith and family. Viewing will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Dalhart Funeral Home, and in Floydada on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 10:00 AM. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM at the New Salem Primitive Baptist Church (899 W Crockett St, Floydada, TX 79235).
Aubrey was a calm and steady presence-never seeking the spotlight, yet naturally leading through example. He was a quiet but effective leader both at home and in his career, always standing firmly behind his family and his work family. He possessed a sharp and thoughtful business mind that extended well beyond the workplace, offering life advice rooted in fairness, honesty, and genuine care for others. He was widely respected for his kindness, generosity, and sound judgment, leading with resolve that was effective without ever being harsh or judgmental.
Upon graduating from Floydada High School, Aubrey attended and graduated from Texas Tech where he majored in Mathematics. He began his professional life as a high school math teacher at Dalhart High School, where he shared his love of learning and problem-solving. That love never left him. Even years after leaving the classroom, Aubrey could often be found tutoring math for friends and family simply because he enjoyed numbers and helping others succeed. He later joined Rita Blanca Electric Cooperative in the Engineering Department, where his steady leadership and business acumen eventually led him to retire as President and CEO.
Family was at the center of Aubrey’s life. He enjoyed traveling with those he loved, fishing the streams and lakes of Colorado, New Mexico, golfing with family, and cheering on his favorite teams—the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and the Texas Rangers. Music brought him joy, especially Motown, Elvis, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Soul, and all forms of country music. One of his greatest pleasures was two-stepping with his beloved wife, Laura, of 57 years. Moments that reflected the warmth and partnership they shared.
Aubrey is survived by his loving wife, Laura Neff; his children Valeri Galati (Chris Galati) and Lance Neff (Robin Brooks); and his cherished grandchild, Ayden Brooks, close cousin Belinda Coats, Aunt Dorothy Neff, and many cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Aubrey “Shorty” Neff and Leona Neff.
