Albert Ortega, age 88, of Dalhart, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2024. Born on September 7, 1935, in Dalhart to Juanita and Pedro Ortega. Albert was the youngest of the family, he had four older sisters, Maggie Trujillo, Francis Chavez, Elva McCown, Mary Kay Trahern and two older brothers, Manuel and Pete Ortega.

Albert's early years were marked by a passion for cars, a hobby that stayed with him through his life. He also enjoyed motorcycles and motorcycle trips. He began his career with the Rock Island Railroad in April 1957, where he dedicated 40 years of service before retiring with Union Pacific Railroad in August 1997. His work ethic and commitment to his job were a testament to his character and determination.

Albert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lois Ortega. He is survived by his three children: Yolanda Smallwood (Danny), Steve Ortega, and Jennifer Sharp (Clay). His legacy continues through his four grandchildren: Danna Metcalf (Barry), Jordan Smallwood (Lacye), Cade and Canon Sharp. He also leaves behind four great-grandchildren: Maegyn, Milam, Maebry, and Miles Smallwood. He also leaves behind several special nieces and nephews.

Albert's life was a celebration of family, hard work, and dedication. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Funeral Mass will at 10 am at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Dalhart on Thursday, August 8, 2024 with Father Lawrence John celebrating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. A Rosary will be recited at 9:30 am prior to mass. Mr. Ortega will lay in state from noon until 8:00 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home. The Ortega Family has entrusted the funeral arrangements to Dalhart Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Twilight Cancer Fund, P.O. Box 471, Dalhart, Texas 79022.
